    A Close-Knit Department

We are a small, close-knit department, which allows for a special kind of camaraderie between students and faculty. The research and social environment is active and friendly; our students consistently give the faculty and staff high marks for their open-door policy.

    Established and Growing

ISE was one of the founding departments of UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in 1946. From these early beginnings, we have become a highly projective department with a strong national reputation. We offer programs spanning the broad field of industrial and systems engineering, and are continuing to hire new faculty as part of our ongoing vision of excellence for this department. | Watch Video >>

Our students are uniquely poised for creative interaction with a variety of academic disciplines, including geography, architecture, management, and mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Industrial engineers apply engineering principles to design and manage the systems made of people, computers, machines, materials, information, and energy, in order to produce the goods and services critical to the economy. They integrate specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences in order to specify, predict, and evaluate the results obtained from such systems.
