Undergraduate Admissions and Transfer

Students can enter the Industrial and Systems Engineering program via four routes:

Entering freshmen

A student applying from high school must meet the minimum requirements of the university. High school preparation should include mathematics through trigonometry, physics, solid geometry, chemistry, and biology.

Transfer students

Transfer students are an important part of the ISE department. Approximately half of a typical ISE junior class transfers from other engineering programs, from both UB and other universities. Students from other scientific disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, computer science, and psychology are welcome. The time necessary for degree completion depends upon how many of the mathematics, physics, and chemistry requirements have been satisfied. Any student contemplating transfer to the Industrial and Systems Engineering curriculum or wishes to learn more about the program requirements should contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies or the Department Chair.

Transfer from other engineering majors at UB

UB engineering students can easily transfer to ISE from other engineering majors at any point throughout their programs. Freshman and sophomore level courses which meet the science, math, and engineering requirements for other engineering majors also meet the requirements for ISE, making it simple to transfer in the freshman or sophomore years. For more advanced students, it is possible to apply junior- and senior-level engineering courses to the IE degree as technical electives.

Transfer from other colleges and universities

Students should refer to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for their transfer requirements.

Transfer from non-engineering programs at UB

Students should refer to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for their transfer requirements for current UB students.
